However, if the inventor or creator is not careful, he or she might inadvertently perform an action resulting in an accidental loss of rights to some or all of the intellectual property. It is also possible that he or she might not have taken appropriate steps to protect the intellectual property before an applicable deadline, also resulting in an accidental loss of rights to some or all of the intellectual property. This is especially true with respect to patents. The presentation will discuss guidelines and suggestions for inventors so that they do not inadvertently lose some or all of their patent rights.
