The HCC 2002 was September 3-6 2002 in Arlington VA. We presented a tech note describing our work. It includes details about the toolkit and several example applications. D. We attended Ubicomp 2001, located in Atlanta, GA and hosted by Georgia Tech. Our research group
displayed our real world interface library and demonstrated our weather application, which displays
temperature and wind speed on a lamp and fan respectively. Below is the paper we submitted to the
formal proceedings. David Wrighton, Dillon Bussert, and D. Scott McCrickard "Lessons Learned in Creating Real-World Interfaces" Demo paper in Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp 2001) , Atlanta, GA, September 2001. PDF, PostScript |

Close to 30 Virginia Tech undergrads involved in research projects participated in the Research Symposium.
Our group submitted an abstract and displayed a poster of our research. Much of our time was spent
demostrating how weather data can be downloaded from a computer and displayed on a real world device
such as a lamp or fan. We also explained how the RWI toolkit was being built and the type of interface
it would provide programmers. Our group won 2nd place in the judges choice as well as the audience's popular vote. We were awarded with handheld scanner pens and $250 for the group. |
