• Saddam on TV: Videotape aired Friday by Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. showed a man who appeared to be Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein walking through the streets of Baghdad in the midst of an excited, cheering crowd. • Heavy fighting: CNN Correspondent Walter Rodgers, embedded with the U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry near the airport, said U.S. M1A1 Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles punched through the Iraqi resistance, fighting back against ambushes from both sides of the road in what Rodgers described as a "substantial push through a free-fire zone."

• Republican Guard surrender: Some 2,500 Iraqi soldiers with the Republican Guard's Baghdad Division have surrendered to U.S. Marines between Kut and Baghdad, said Capt. Frank Thorp, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command.
• Checkpoint bombing: Three coalition soldiers were killed and two wounded in a car bomb attack at a western Iraq checkpoint overnight Friday, according to U.S. Central Command. Officials said a pregnant woman got out of a car and began screaming in fear at the checkpoint approximately 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Haditha Dam. • Khazar captured: Kurdish forces captured the town of Khazar in northern Iraq Friday after more than a day of fighting. Coalition special operations forces in white Land Rovers were seen spotting targets for airstrikes and after several hours of bombing, Iraqi soldiers retreated and Kurdish forces -- known as Peshmerga or "those who face death" -- moved in. • Iraq supply route: U.S. Marines were guarding a major highway south of Baghdad Friday to keep the route open for the transport of ammunition, food and other supplies, CNN's Art Harris reported.
• Iraqi informer: An Iraqi man who helped U.S. Marines plan the rescue of Army Pfc. Jessica Lynch has been granted refugee status and has been described by the Marines as a "hero." Full Story
