 ABOUT THE SHOW
CNN's "Reliable Sources" continues its successful run as one of television's only weekly programs to turn a critical lens on the media. Each week hosts Howard Kurtz and Bernard Kalb lead the scrutiny of the media's fairness and objectivity by questioning print and broadcast journalists, including those at CNN. "Reliable Sources" airs Sundays from 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. (all times Eastern).
The concept for the program was created during the height of the Gulf War, when CNN assembled a panel of distinguished journalists, including Walter Cronkite, David Halberstam and Bill Moyers for a one-hour special, "The Press Goes to War," in which journalists discussed the media coverage of the Gulf War.
"Reliable Sources" brings together the talents and insights of print journalists, television correspondents, and media analysts every week. Guests have included Mike Wallace, David Brinkley, Helen Thomas, Andrea Mitchell, A.M. Rosenthal and Sam Donaldson.
Topics dissected on the show have ranged from media coverage of the presidency, Congress and political campaigns, to questions of media bias in coverage of religion and cultural diversity. "Reliable Sources" has also examined the propriety of the hidden camera, the controversy surrounding journalists who move in and out of government, and the press coverage of the private lives of public figures. The role of the media in covering such highly controversial cases as O.J. Simpson, Timothy McVeigh and Paula Jones have all been topics on the program.
