Thomas Roberts is a general assignment news anchor for CNN Headline News. Based in CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, Roberts joined the network in December 2001.
Before joining CNN, Roberts was a news anchor with NBC affiliate WAVY-TV in Norfolk, Va. He was the anchor of the station's 5 p.m. news program and also served as an investigative and consumer reporter.
Previously, Roberts anchored the 6 p.m. and the 10 p.m. news programs in addition to fulfilling investigative and consumer reporting duties for the FOX affiliate WFTX-TV in Ft. Myers, Fla. Earlier, Roberts was with ABC affiliate KLKN-TV in Lincoln, Neb., where he was a general assignment reporter. He started his network news career at NBC San Diego affiliate KNSD-TV as a writer and field producer.
Roberts has received numerous honors and awards, including a 2002 Emmy nomination as well as the 2002 Virginia AP Award in the Documentary/In-Depth Category for "Parvo Puppies," an investigation into a local Virginia/North Carolina puppy mill which was eventually shut down due to Roberts' investigative report. He also received a 2001 Edward R. Murrow Award for a documentary he produced and the readers of the newspaper The Virginian Pilot voted him "favorite male anchor."
Roberts earned his bachelor's degree in mass communications and journalism from Western Maryland College.
