(CNN) -- The number of suspected cases of a new form of deadly pneumonia is on the rise.

The mystery illness called severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, was first detected in Southeast Asia and is now spreading across the world.

These are the most up-to-date details as of April 4:

Total number of reported cases: 2,387

Confirmed death toll: 79

Australia: One case reported.

Belgium: Once case reported.

Brazil: One case reported.

Canada: 178 cases reported. Six dead.

China: 1,190 cases reported. 46 dead.

France: Three case reported.

Germany: Five cases reported.

Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region): 734 cases reported. 17 dead, including a patient who was medically transferred from Vietnam.

Italy: Three cases reported.

Ireland: One cases reported.

Romania: One cases reported.

Singapore: 98 cases reported. Four dead.

Spain: Once case reported.

Switzerland: Two cases reported.

Taiwan: 14 cases reported.

Thailand: Seven cases reported. Two dead.

United Kingdom: Three cases reported.

United States: 85 cases reported.

Vietnam: 59 cases reported. Four dead.
