Virginia Tech offers multidisciplinary opportunities in information security (InfoSec) and information assurance (IA) research and education. Faculty from the departments of Computer Science; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Finance, Insurance, and Business Law; and Accounting and Information Systems participate in these programs. Courses focused on information security and assurance exist in each of these departments. These courses are tailored to different audiences: engineers and computer scientists work with technical issues while students in business focus more on the management aspects. In addition, information security is strongly supported throughout the university by the staff of the Vice President for Information Systems and Computing. Thus, information security is a cross-college and cross-university initiative at Virginia Tech.
