MobileAR for Scaffolding Historical Inquiry Learning

Achieving expertise in a discipline requires new students to learn how to think critically, analyze sources, and develop an evidence-based account.  This inquiry learning is central to all disciplines and followed by domain experts.  In the process of learning, various scaffolds are used to help new students to grasp the importance of inquiry process, to understand how experts engage in inquiry, and to master the strategies needed to practice inquiry themselves.

The goal of this project is to explore the potential of mobile augmented reality as a scaffold for historical inquiry learning. Because of its ability to augment real-world locations with digital objects, photos, and documents, AR allows students to visualize change over time and space and requires student reflection in context.
